Monday/Tuesday: Tonight the most important thing you can do is have your study guide finished. This means that your notebook is prepared for the test by having the answers highlighted and pages marked. In addition, you have been quizzed by the adults in your home, and a signature and score have been recorded on the actual study guide that I gave you. You will also need to have a drawing on the left hand page on Monkeyman. Show your force vectors and do the vector addition to show the overall motion of your drawing. Just do what we did with Monkeyman in a new situation.
Wednesday/Thursday: As of right now, I don't think we have any homework. Check back later though. Friday: Go enjoy your Thanksgiving. Feel free to share your new song with your family! Monday/Tuesday: Today you learned how to make line graphs and what your conclusion should be about. Tonight you must make those final copy in preparation for WEDNESDAY (THURSDAY) turn in. This is one of the last big grades make them good! In addition, this Friday you will need to have your parent input page filled in and graded. Do NOT fail on this one since it could be almost 10% of your grades. I'm doing this early because every quarter there are people who forget and get one entire grade lower because, because, ...I don't get it! It is SOOOOOOOOO easy!
Wednesday/Thursday: JUST GET THAT PARENT INPUT PAGE SCORE, COMMENTED ON, AND SIGNED!!! It could mean the difference of a whole letter grade! Friday: Tonight, if you didn't finish your classwork, you need to complete your flip notes on force and motion. Definition and example from our project on the back, and the picture of the example on the front. Monday/Tuesday: Final draft on parts 1-5 of the lab write up (See the checklist for details). Don't forget to look at the first lab you did to see if the format is correct, and DON'T forget to use the checklist!!!! If it is not completed by everyone in your group, you will not compete on Wednesday (or Thrusday).
Wed/Thurs: Guess what?! No homework!!!! ...but there will be graphing on Friday! Friday: Try to complete the two graphs you need for your lab write-up. It's a speed vs. time and a distance vs. time graph is what you need. You have all of the numbers to do them either by hand or on the computer. OF COURSE, if you are totally unsure of how to do this, just wait until Monday and I'll s Monday/Tuesday: Tonight you need to show your parents your current science grade, create your title page for your new lab, and update your table of contents in your notebook. Total time should be about 10 minutes. Oh, and USE THE LAB WRITE-UP GUIDELINES to make your title page!!!!
Wednesday/Thursday: Tonight I need you to go home, and using the LAB WRITE UP CHECKLIST, write the introduction to your research. In addition, Sometime before Monday you need to blog on the latest entries from October. Friday: Write your hypothesis right underneath the introduction to research that you already wrote. You should use the lab write-up checklist and your previous lab to get the formatting correct. Oh, and have you blogged? GET BUSY! Monday/Tuesday: Tonight you don't really have any homework! YEAH! ...but you did receive your grades today so some of you might want to catch up by doing some extra credit or getting caught up on missed work.
Wednesday/Thursday: Today you were able to join a group in preparation for the "Kick Off" project for the next unit, the Planetary Explorer project. You should have discussed materials amongst yourselves and tomorrow you should have a big box to hold your stuff, and by Monday you should have a vehicle to work with as well as materials to build from. Friday: Make SURE you have that car for Monday Monday/Tuesday: Wednesday (or Thursday) you'll be taking a test! Go over the study guide I've given you, write any notes you want on the entries we've already made (it is open notebook), and then get quizzed and signed by your parent. That's it!
NOTE: If you didn't do so well on the density column, do the extra credit lab of the month. You can find it at "the Caboose" on this site. Also, if you bombed the individual density test, feel free to watch the tutorial videos on "the Resources" page on this site and arrange a time to come and try again. Wednesday/Thursday: Tonight you are going to want to find any article from the internet, newspaper, magazine, etc. that deals with the concept of density. It doesn't have to use the word "density" it just has to have something to do with the concept. Like last year, someone picked up an article about the growing population in New York city. Get it? ...no, you can't do "the growing population in New York city." :) When you have your article, glue it in on the right side of a new entry (it should be entry five) and then do the reading strategy "One Page Summary, no more, no less" (you can find this in your reference pages) on the left side. Friday: This weekend I want you to watch the video at the Kahn Academy (go to the online tools page) that is on star formation. It's actually called "Birth of Stars". You can find it at http://www.khanacademy.org/video/birth-of-stars?playlist=Cosmology+and+Astronomy . On a separate sheet of paper tell me what the video has to do with density. Use Costa's Levels of questions to develop a level 1, 2, and 3 question for Monday along with your explanation. Monday/Tuesday: Since we reviewed our metric measurements today, tonight I want you to find and illustrate at least two more objects for each metric measurement on the left hand page of the entry we started today. When you are done you should have three objects that you can associate each measurement with. In addition, you should update your table of contents in your notebook.
Wednesday/Thursday: Tonight you need to bring in three fluids (approx. 50ml of each) and two solids that you think should work well for our density column project. Actually the fluids and solids should have been something you and your partners worked out so you don't have repeat fluids. The last thing that you should do is to call your fellow group member and remind them not to forget the materials! Friday: First, make sure you bring about 50ml of any fluids you need to complete your density column on Monday or Tuesday. Next Wednesday (or Thursday) you'll be taking a test! Go over the study guide I've given you, write any notes you want on the entries we've already made (it is open notebook), and then get quizzed and signed by your parent. That's it! Monday/Tuesday: Tonight I think you'll need to go home and to create a final draft version of your data table and then a graph. Don't forget that you can easily use the online tools found on this website to cover all of your graphing needs.
Wednesday/Thursday: Like last night, be sure that all results are final draft. DO NOT e-mail the graphs to me if you do it electronically. Just create them and print them. They will be put together into the final lab report. Everything gets turned in as one piece of work. Friday: You need to finish your lab write up. This probably means that you need finish the conclusion into a final draft format. Don't forget to use your lab write up guidelines!!! Oh, and if you are going for a five on this project you need to extend and report the research this weekend on your own. Need ideas? Thi For Monday/Tuesday class I need you to put the final touches onto your science notebook. This means that your need to put the title "Physical Science" on the cover along with a minimum of three drawings showing what we will be learning this year. Oh, and when your are done drawing you should use a minimum of four colors to decorate it.
For Wednesday/Thursday classes: We're starting to roll on our food fight lab. In order to make sure we do our testing properly it is important that we're familiar with the lab write up format which we'll be using to communicate our data. So, tonight you need to work on the page next to the guidelines/checklist in your notebook and to describe how a lab write-up is like a hamburger. Yes, describe what each of the seven parts would be like in a burger and then make an illustration showing me how the parts correlate. For Friday: Tonight/over the weekend, you need to make sure that your lab report is in final draft format. Use the checklist if in doubt. Also, do you have some food you need to bring? How about other materials? Lastly, I want you to visit the "Curious Train of Thought (the class blog) on this site and to contribute to any of the conversations there. Welcome everyone! I'm excited to get the year rolling. This week as we get started I'll need each of you to find a computer, which if your reading this means you have, and to complete the website assignment I gave you in class. Remember that if you lost it, I can send you another electronically. This is due at the end of the week!
ALSO, don't forget to get a BOUND 80-100 page composition book like I showed you in class, glue sticks, and colored pencils. Gotta have 'em by Monday! Having trouble doing the homework? Feel free to post your troubles here. |
