Homework - Week Nineteen - End of the Quarter!

1/27/2014

M/T: Today you learned about how scientists found out all that they have about the structure of an atom.  Tonight I want you to continue getting used to the elements in the periodic table by completing the Periodic Puns (download below)  I also need you to be sure to pull together your materials for your upcoming model project.  Remember, don't spend money!

W/Th: Well, you now know as much structure about the atom as I will teach you.  Now you need to apply it by creating your assigned model.   Lose the handout?  Just look below and download.

F: The atom model is due on M/T.  Finish up whatever you haven't done this weekend!

Homework - Week Eighteen

1/21/2014

T/W: Today I need you to use our "APEMAN" acronym to complete your atom drawings.   ALSO, Did you get your science notebook parent input signed?!  If not, you have GOT to get it signed!

Th/F: Today we continued to get used to the periodic table and atoms.  Tonight, ON A SEPARATE PIECE OF PAPER, I want you to write a sentence about anything using only the periodic table atomic symbols.  It must have five words, minimum.  You can use any three "free" letters if you need to.  Lastly, you need to list the number of protons, neutron, and electrons that each element that you used has.   Ex.   I BaRf.   This short sentence is made from the elemental/atomic symbols of Iodine, Barium, and Rutherfordium, I would then need to figure out how many particles each has and list those below.

Homework - Week Seventeen

1/13/2014

M/T: Today you learned that there were different kinds of stars.  These stars have many things in common as well as different in the way they "shine" and the way they form, live, and die. Tonight you will fill in the bulls-eye diagram with these commonalities and differences.  Remember: 3 things that are unique to each end of life stellar form (black hole, white dwarf, and neutron star), two things that they each have in common with each other, and three things that they all share.

W/Th: Today we studied about the states, or phases, that matter exists in (solid, liquid, gas, and plasma).  Now I need you to "Become the Riddler".  The instructions on how to do this can be found in your "Process, process, process" reference page in your notebook.  Be sure to write a riddle for each state, make an illustration, and then explain why it is a good riddle.

F: Next week is our last week of 2nd quarter and it is only a four day week!  Go home and in the back of your notebook get PARENT INPUT signed, commented, and scored!  Super important, last points for the quarter!

Homework - Week Sixteen

1/6/2014

M/T: Tonight I want you to refresh your memory of all the work we have done so far.  To do this I want you to go to each of the entries from 9-18 and to write the essential question for each entry.  Remember that this is like Jeopardy, you look at the work and write a question that would be answered by the work.  When I see you next we'll be doing your final!  ...no problem, you have practiced it a ton, it's just a matter of applying it.

W/Th: You need to complete your final tonight.  Be sure to use a ruler!!!  On your sheet you should have: 1) a position vs. time graph and a speed vs. time graph of my downhill ride.  2) Speed calculations (average and instantaneous speeds for the three sections).  That's a total of four calculations with proper units.  3) a paragraph describing my ride which also correctly uses the terms: acceleration, thrust, gravity, and reference point.

F: We are now transitioning to looking at all of the matter that's been moving and conveying energy through forces for the last couple months!  Tonight you will need to use only thirty words to describe what a star is and how it creates new elements.  You must use the words Fusion, Gravity, Energy, and Matter .  When you are done with your 30-word definition, please make an improved drawing of the illustration we made in class.  Yes, it will be color coded!
