It's going to be a while until the expo starts, but I figured it was easy to post in now before I forgot. We actually won't be studying chemistry until about November, but there's no reason why you can't learn some things ahead of time. So, get a group of friends and check it all out down at Balboa Park. Make a day of it, and enjoy the park or the zoo too. Just make sure to bring me a completed bingo card (you'll know what I mean when you get there) when you show up for the extra credit.
Here's the details:
The San Diego Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) would like to invite you and your students to Chem Expo 2010, on Saturday, October 22 from 11 AM to 3 PM, in Balboa Park’s Casa del Prado (just east of the reflecting pool).
The Chem Expo is a free event that takes place annually in recognition of ACS National Chemistry Week.
Chem Expo is designed to spark student interest in chemistry and science by means of chemical demonstrations, displays from local companies and organizations, and hands-on activities. This is the twenty-fourth year of Chem Expo in San Diego and we want you to join us in this celebration.
This year’s theme: The International Year of Chemistry 2011 (IYC 2011). It is a worldwide celebration of the achievements of chemistry and its contributions to the well-being of humankind. Under the unifying theme “Chemistry—our life, our future,” we will be celebrating the year with a range of interactive, entertaining, and educational activities for all ages. IYC 2011 events will emphasize that chemistry is a creative science essential for sustainability and improvements to our way of life. Activities, such as lectures, exhibits, and hands-on experiments, will explore how chemical research is critical for solving our most vexing global problems involving food, water, health, energy, transportation, and more.
