Plants are not thought to be mobile organisms, but many can move. Eighth graders, find out which plants move and give us some rates of motion (speeds). Please provide three examples. 7th graders, take the info and describe how these behavioral adaptations help the plant to survive.

Plant will grow in a different direction towards sunlight or the water source to be able to survive. They will also grow in a different direction to grow out of adverse condition such as an area that is too windy to survive, or away from buildings, structures, or vegetation.

Well, there are many different types of plants that move for many different reasons. The following examples are all behavioral adaptations for different types of plants. The first example is, carnivorous plants. They move to capture and consume there prey. Another example is, the climbing plants that have fine tendrils, or stems, that reach out until they find something firm to grip onto. My last example is that some plants are touch-sensitive, so if their leaves are touched or they are being threatened they will move their leaves.

I think that plants move to follow resores, the roots grow to follow minerals and water and everything above ground follows the sun. This adaptation is helpful because it ensures that they will have longer lasting life.

I found one strange example of a plant that moves, it is called a touch-me-not, it will fold up its leaflets and droop its leaves when touched and at night. The Venus fly-trap is another type of plant that moves. The Venus fly trap is a carnivorous plant that when their prey lands on them, they rapidly close their jaws and trap the prey. These plants move at a rapid speed.

One example of a plant that moves is the Venus Fly Trap. I know it is a very commonly used plant to compare with things, but none the less it is a plant that moves at a rapid speed. Another example is the Waterwheel. It is a very scarce plant but its pretty much a smaller version of a Venus Fly Trap. Finally, the Bladderwort. i know disgusting name right? Anyways, as the name suggests they use a bladder-type of trap. they move to eat the prey then store them to actually eat later. It is quite strange. Well, there were 3 examples of plants that have rates of motion!

OKay, good post, but the venus fly trap was already used. That's not a big deal though. What I really need are some rates! How fast do these plants move? Comments are closed.
