Planetary Explorers...

10/17/2011

You are about to start an engineering project that requires you to complete tasks as efficiently as possible.  Many space organizations, like NASA, have been doing this for a while.  Look up one probe that is currently studying our solar system, and tell us about it here.   Can you also add a link to its official web site?

There is a probe currently on a mission named Rosetta. It is currently on a course with 67P/churyumov-gerasimenko. It is heading for a coment and will deploy landing when it arrives there. It was launched in March 2004 and is intended to finish the job in May 2015. It is from the institution ESA. This info is from WIKIPEDIA. :)

Rosetta is to orbit the coment 67P/Churyumov-gerasimenko and study the surface of it.

Voyager I is in the heliosheath. This is the transition zone. The space between stars. It is where the solar wind is being blown sideways by a interstellar wind. This makes the solar wind at zero. This probe is about to go further than anything has ever gone.

NASA had just recently just launched a probe called Juno. Juno launched on August 5, 2011. It will study Jupiter and how it formed. Juno will arrive on Jupiter in July of 2016.

didn't they do the Juno launch to learn more about what was below the clouds on Jupiter or more about how our solar system formed???

I picked the satellite probe Aqua because it sounded intresting. Aqua is a
major science Earth mission centered in NASA. Aqua was launched on May
4,2004. It gets its name from how much data about water it generates. It
stores over 89 gigabytes of information a day. Other variables being
measured each day by Aqua are radiative energy, fluxes, aerosals, and the
vegitations on the land.

The voyager is now at the outermost layer heliosheath where the solar wind is. they are still sending scientific info through the deep space network (DSN). they are on there thirty third launch sense 1997.

Planet Explorers

The Adler has launched the most immersive, hands-on exhibition ever created for families at the museum. The exhibition Planet Explorers offers a great space adventure packed with excitement and fun. Each child becomes a space explorer and embarks on an awe-inspiring journey through the Universe to the mysterious Planet X.

I'm surprised that no one has posted something on Spirit, or Opportunity! My personal favorite is New Horizons. Someone check that one out.

The Pioneer 10 was the first space probe to orbit Jupiter. It was launched March 2, 1972. Between July 15 1972 and Febuary 15, 1973 it became the first spacecraft to travel the Asteroid Belt.

In 2006, NASA dispatched an ambassador to the planetary frontier. The New Horizons spacecraft is now halfway between Earth and Pluto, on approach for a dramatic flight past the icy planet and its moons in July 2015.

I heared about the New Horizons and how it was launcheed on 2006, and that it might land on pluto on 2015. The probe has travellled about 3 billion miles the momment it lands on Pluto.

"OPPORTUNITY UPDATE: Opportunity Past 21 Miles of Driving! Will Spend Winter at Cape York - sols 2745-2750, October 14-19, 2011"

How did the measurments "sols" come about?

Are the days or years - sols - based on the distance between Mars and the Sun? or how often Mars orbit?

Adding on about Voyager 1, it is the farthest man made object from planet earth. It has been operating for 34 years, 1 month, and 18 days to the day(October 23, 2011). Also, Voyager 1 constantly sends back data to the "Deep Space Network"

in 1997 the first mars rover was commissioned, its name was the "Mars Pathfinder Rover" and it was pretty low tech to today's probes. If u wish to read more on how rovers to mars have changed through the years here is the website above.

A NASA spacecraft has confirmed Einstein's theory of gravity, or general relativity. Gravity Probe B reached measurements that agreed with theoretical predictions for two effects of general relativity, which means that gravity rises when mass bends space and time!

I think that filling up a balloon is related to density because when you fill up a balloon with your own oxegyn it will be less dense than filling it up with a machine because there is more carbon dioxide than oxegyn and oxegyn is more dense than carbon dioxide. I think this because when there is a fire in your house, you are supposed to crawl on the floor because there is where more clean oxegyn there.

I found out that if your planetary explorer does not work you will be able to use another persons explorer or you can bring in another explorer to use.

Jake Ford link

When using the planetary explorer, you need to make sure that you have all of the necessary supplies for it like batteries or charger depending on the type of explorer

Having your planetary explorer means you need to take care of it and give it the necessary requirements. Some of it's requirements are charged batteries or a charger depending on the type of explorer you have.
