Can you explain to someone who doesn't really understand the Overall Performance Ratio (OPR) what it means and why both points and mass are so important in this engineering contest?

Overall Performance Ratio is the overall points that you get once you have been through all the events using your Planetary Explorer. Mr. Casey will add up all your points and then divide them by your Explorer's Mass. Revealing the OPR.

The OPR is your planetary explorers points for each event divided my the mass of the car. The mass matters because the smaller car you have the less points you have to get for each event. The points matter because even if you have a small car it still needs to do well because the points are divided my your mass. If your car is heavy you need to score as much points as possible so it makes it much harder to get a high OPR with greater mass.

I think You wanted us to be challenged much how NASA would be due to there's a bill they have to stay under, and they need to complete the most achievements possible. So the idea of this way of grading helps us understand their challenge.

OPR is based on mass over performance. If you have a light car that performs great your OPR is high.If you have a car that weighs alot it has to perform very good.

Your overall performance ratio is the totally collection of points your car scores in the events which is then divided by the mass of the car. To get a good opr you need a light car so even if other cars score more than you, you can still demolish them in opr for a high grade. This can be showed by my groups car which got the highest opr in all 4 classes which came in at a 6.9

OPR is a total collection of points with your cars scores in the event, then you divide it by the mass of your car. If you have a light car that preforms good, your ORP would be high. If you have a car that is light, then your OPR would be lower.

Does this sound right? Can someone add to this? Were all the best cars light? Some were actual medium sized, how can that be?

Ok.... Mr.Casey is right it's true some of the best cars were light weight but doesn't mean the bigger one's can do well to because they could have a powerful car and perform really well.. yet score higher than the mas of there car sooo keep in mind NOT always the really small one' even though are's was tiny hahaha.!:) Comments are closed.
