Distance=how far (measured in various terms) is an object from another object and the space between them?

I like what you are saying Chance, but I need more details on how the graphs I provided match your football idea. Tell me about how a football play(s) would match the graph. Can anyone else do t first?

In the graph above regarding distance, x=yards (in football). Time is in seconds (same as in graph). The players have four plays to travel a certain distance (ex: ten yards) in order to obtain a first down. In one example, a player would need constant velocity (constant slope on graph) in order to reach the yards needed. A player needs acceleration when he gets the ball and then will have to run or pass in order to get the first down. And if not, the first down, a touchdown.

I like what you have to say Chance, but when I read it I'm not sure if a football player wants to accelerate or have a constant velocity. Can you clarify? Anyone else could too.

As an NFL running back, I would want to have acceleration. With acceleration I would reach my top speed in x-amount of time in order to make a five yard play into a fifty yard play, covering more ground/distance in a shorter amount of time.

Velocity means the speed and direction of which an object travels in distance. Speed is how fast is moving and direction is where it’s going to. For instance a car starts at a velocity of 35 miles per hour, after 4 seconds it reaches speed of 50 miles and stays at the same speed for about 3 seconds that means zero acceleration. Then starts to loose speed as it encounters a hill which produces negative acceleration. Then there it reaches its destination.

I like your responses, but does this real life situation describe one of the graphs? 11/22/2013 02:19:49 am
velocity in my opinion is the speed of something in a chosen direction. in general use the word is speed for example the tank shot forward at an incredible velocity.

If i were at home and wanted to make a peanut butter jelly sandwich and then realized I had no peanut butter so I then walk to the store. Then when i was done buying the peanut butter I started to walk back home. I then dropped my phone and stopped to pick it up. Then I heard a yell and saw a robbery happening at the store I was at. I start to run home and I didn't stop until i got home.

Please explain where the stopping and then running occur.

When I drop my phone I stop, and once I see the robbers at the store I start to run away. 12/2/2013 03:49:35 am
it is like a race in the beginning of the race your not acceleration then you are picking up speed as you pick up speed, you go farther in less time then you get settled into a steady pace and go the same distant in the same time then you get fired and you start going less distance over the same time finally you finish the race Comments are closed.
