Look at each of the branches in this illustration. The pictures references Charles Darwin and evolution. Look at each branch and then do some research. I want yo to list at least two ancestors for each of the species pictured. You only have to do one branch, and once that one branch is done no one else can do it. So if you see postings, be sure to check what animals have already been done.

Well, two of the ancestors of horses are Hyracotherium and Mesohippus. Some ancestors of whales are Ambulocetus and Rodhocetus, and some ancestors of dolphins are Agorophiidae and Squalodontidae.

This is a good start AJ, but what does it mean? What are the differences in these ancestor species? Can you post a link to a picture?

To start off two of the dinosaur's ancestors would be the Archosaurs and the Spondylosoma. They were both founded to be around 250ish million years old and many people believe them to be ancestors of the dinosaur. Next, 2 of the lizards are Tuatara and Lepidosauria. They are both lizard like creatures that existed before the lizards we see today but the theory that lizards are like baby dinosaurs, are not very true... Finally, two ancestors of birds are Archaeopteryx and Anchiornis. More likely birds could be the distant ancestors of dinosaurs because they share many same skeletal features.

Good work! How about some pictures of these ancestors you wrote about? Comments are closed.
